Peculiarities of the electro- and magnetoresistivity of WTe₂ and MoTe₂ single crystals before and after quenching

WTe2 and MoTe2 single crystals were grown, some of them quenched, the following properties studied: electroresistivity in temperature range from 1.8 to 300 K, magnetoresistivity at temperatures K magnetic fields up 9 T. On one hand, quenching leads dramatic changes behaviour value MoTe2; type “semiconductor” “metallic”, values before after differ by 8 orders magnitude (!) low temperatures. other is shown not lead significant WTe2. A relatively small increase quenched can be associated with scattering current carriers structural defects. The increases 7 16% a field T 12 as result quenching. reach ∼1700% 2 K. non-quenched samples typical for compensated conductors closed Fermi surface.
